Matilda Jr - The Electric Theatre Guildford
From Thursday 15 February Until Saturday 17 February 2024
Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.
Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!
Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda JR. is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

Showdown goes International...
Showdown Theatre Arts have waved goodbye to their new friends from Baltimore School For the Arts this week after spending 8 days together rehearsing and performing ‘The Exonerated’ based on the true story of 6 innocent people sent to Death Row, the show received great reviews from audiences and the individual performances from the cast aged 15-19 were outstanding. The whole project has proven what talent both academies have and they are training the future of British and American theatre. The exchange programme has gone so well and had such an impact on both casts that Showdown have now been confirmed as the permanent British partners for this event, not only does this mean they can offer this opportunity to young people in Surrey and West Sussex every year, UK casts will also be returning to Baltimore to perform out there, principal Carli Jones says ‘During the week I witnessed this experience have a huge impact on these young individuals, not only as performers but as people, they created friendships for life and they will share those memories forever. Experiencing each other cultures and rehearsing in this intensive format is a real taste of the focus and determination needed to train and work professionally in this industry’. Showdown Theatre Arts will now look to find funding for the return journey of the exchange.
